Kumarakom
Bird sanctuary on the lake
Overview
About Kumarakom
Kumarakom is a cluster of small islands woven together by the waters of Vembanad Lake. The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary attracts migratory birds from Siberia and beyond — egrets, herons, waterfowl, and if you're lucky, the endangered purple heron. Houseboat routes from Kumarakom to Alleppey pass some of the most scenic stretches of the backwaters, ideal for photographers and birders.
