No experience needed
Your guide shows you how to hold the paddle and steer before you set off. The canals are calm and sheltered, and you wear a life jacket throughout.
What to wear
Light clothes that dry fast, and sandals or water shoes. Skip jeans. Bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen, and expect to get a little wet.
Phones and cameras
Bring a waterproof pouch for your phone, or leave valuables at your hotel. Anything loose in the kayak can end up in the canal.
When to go
November to February is cool and dry, the best time to paddle. March to May is hot, so pick sunrise. June to September is monsoon, with the heaviest rain from July.

How much does kayaking in Alleppey cost?

Do I need kayaking experience?
No. Your guide shows you how to paddle before you start, the canals are calm, and you wear a life jacket the whole time. Tell us when you book if anyone in the group can't swim.
Is sunrise or sunset kayaking better?
Sunrise (6:00 to 9:00 AM) has the calmest water, the coolest air and the most birds, and ends with breakfast. Sunset (4:30 to 7:00 PM) is shorter and ends with tea as the light goes gold.
What is the minimum age for kayaking?
Children aged 5 and up can join, with an adult in the group.
What should I wear for kayaking?
Light, quick-dry clothes and sandals or water shoes. Avoid jeans. Bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen, and a waterproof pouch for your phone.
