An Alleppey boat house stay is the full houseboat experience: you board at 12:00 PM, cruise the lake and canals through the afternoon, moor for the night near a village, and cruise back through the quiet morning canals to reach the jetty by 9:00 AM. That is 21 hours on a private boat with your own captain and cook, and every meal made on board.
Most people who plan a houseboat stay in Kerala mean this trip. It is the one that shows the backwaters at their best: the open lake in the afternoon light, the evening on deck, and the canals at sunrise before anyone else is on the water.

Five meals, cooked on board
The cook prepares everything fresh in the boat kitchen from a fixed Kerala menu. On an overnight stay you get:
- A welcome drink when you board
- Kerala lunch with rice, sambar, thoran, fish fry, pappadam and pickle
- Evening tea or coffee with banana fritters or onion pakoda
- Dinner with chapathi, rice, dal and chicken curry
- Breakfast: idli, appam, puttu, or bread and eggs

Why the boat stops for the night
Houseboats in Alleppey are not allowed to cruise after dark. It keeps the waterways safe and leaves them clear for local fishermen, who set their nets at night. So in the evening your boat moors near Kuppapuram village, and it stays there until morning. The cruising happens in two parts: the afternoon, and the early morning on the way back.
This is worth knowing before you book. An overnight stay does not cover more water than a day cruise — it adds the evening and the morning. For many guests those are the best hours of the trip.
Rates for one night
Each night is priced on its own date. Weekday nights in the off season are the cheapest. Weekend nights cost more, festival dates such as Onam, Diwali, Pongal, Vishu and Bakrid can cost more, and the Christmas to New Year period is the most expensive time of the year. Every rate includes 2 guests per bedroom; each bedroom can take up to 4, with a charge for each extra guest. Children up to 5 stay free. The price guide explains the rules in full.
Staying more than one night
You can stay up to 7 nights. Each extra night follows the same rhythm — cruising by day, mooring by night — and each night is priced on its own date, so a weekend surcharge applies only to the weekend nights.
Arriving late?
If you cannot reach Alleppey by noon, our night stay starts at 5:30 PM with the boat already moored. You get dinner, the night on the water and breakfast, but no afternoon cruise.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Does the houseboat sail at night?
No. Night cruising is not allowed in Alleppey, so the boat moors near a village for the night and cruises again in the morning.
