What a Deluxe houseboat includes

AC on a Deluxe houseboat

This is the main thing to understand before you book. On a Deluxe houseboat the AC is in the bedrooms only, and it runs at night, usually from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. During the afternoon cruise the bedrooms are not air-conditioned, and the living area is open to the breeze.

For most guests this is fine: the afternoon is spent on deck, and the AC is on when you sleep. If you want AC during the day — travelling with elderly parents or a baby, or in the hottest months — you have two options:

• Add the full-time AC upgrade, at ₹1,500 per bedroom per night, to keep the bedroom AC on from check-in to check-out.
• Book a Premium houseboat, where full-time bedroom AC is included along with a wider menu.

The Deluxe menu

Meals are cooked fresh on board from a fixed Kerala menu:

• Welcome drink: lemon juice or fresh juice
• Lunch: rice, sambar, vegetable thoran, mezhukkupuratti, fish fry, banana kalan or curd, pappadam, pickle, salad and fruit
• Evening tea: tea or coffee with banana fritters or onion pakoda
• Dinner: chapathi, rice, dal curry, chicken curry or roast, a vegetable side dish, salad and curd
• Breakfast: idli, appam, puttu, or bread with omelette

Vegetarian meals can be arranged on request before you arrive.

Deluxe or Premium?

Choose Deluxe if you will spend the day on deck and want the best value. Choose Premium if you want bedroom AC all the time, upgraded interiors or dishes like karimeen fry. A useful comparison: on a 2-bedroom boat, the full-time AC upgrade on Deluxe costs ₹3,000 a night, and the Premium upgrade costs ₹4,000 a night but also brings the Premium interiors and menu.

Deluxe houseboat sizes

Deluxe boats are available with 1 bedroom for couples, 2 bedrooms for families, and 3 to 5 bedrooms for larger groups. Each bedroom sleeps up to 4.
