The best time for a houseboat in Alleppey depends on what you want more: dry weather or a lower price. November to February is cool and dry and the busiest time on the water. June to August is the monsoon and the cheapest time of the year. The boats run in every month; what changes is the weather, the crowd and the rate. November to February: the main season
Clear skies, cool mornings and calm water make these the easiest months on a houseboat. Afternoons on deck are comfortable without AC, which matters on a Deluxe boat, where bedroom AC runs only from about 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. It is also when most visitors come, so weekends and the Christmas to New Year stretch fill first. From 20 December to 10 January every night costs 50% more; our New Year houseboat page has the holiday rate for each boat.
March to May: hot days, quiet water
Afternoons reach about 37°C and the backwaters are quieter. The middle of the day is warm. In these months the AC question decides the boat: a Premium houseboat runs bedroom AC from check-in to check-out, or you can add full-time AC to a Deluxe bedroom for ₹1,500 a night. Prices are at the regular rate.
June to September: the monsoon
The southwest monsoon arrives in June and is heaviest from July to September. The paddy fields and canal banks turn deep green, the lake is full, and the backwaters are at their quietest. From 15 June to 30 August the boats we book drop to the off-season rate: ₹8,000 for 1 bedroom, ₹12,000 for 2 bedrooms, ₹5,500 per bedroom for larger boats and ₹5,000 for a room on the sharing houseboat.
August also brings the Nehru Trophy Boat Race, held on the second Saturday of the month on Punnamada Lake, the same lake the houseboats leave from.

The cheapest dates
The lowest price for any boat is a weekday night between 15 June and 30 August. Outside the monsoon, a weekday night in February, March or September is at the regular rate with no weekend charge.
