1. Book a sharing room
For one couple, the cheapest night on the water is a room on our sharing houseboat: ₹5,500 per room at regular-season rates, against ₹9,000 for a private 1-bedroom boat. The room is private; the boat is shared with other guests. See private vs sharing for the trade-offs.
2. Travel in the off season
The off season, in the monsoon months from mid-June to the end of August, has the lowest prices of the year. The table above shows the off-season rates.
3. Pick a weekday
Weekend nights carry a 10% surcharge over weekdays. Each night is priced on its own date, so moving a stay from Saturday to a weekday lowers the price.
4. Avoid the peak and festival dates
Late December to early January is the most expensive time of year, with a 50% surcharge from 20 December to 10 January. Festival dates, including Onam, Diwali, Pongal, Vishu and Bakrid, can also cost more.
5. Choose the right boat size
Every bedroom includes 2 guests, and you can add up to 2 more per bedroom at ₹750 each. So a family of four on a 1-bedroom boat pays ₹10,500, where a 2-bedroom boat costs ₹13,000. For larger groups, one bigger boat usually costs less per person than two small ones: from 3 bedrooms up, each bedroom costs ₹6,000.
6. Stay with Deluxe
Deluxe boats are our starting price. Premium adds ₹3,000 a night on a 1-bedroom boat. Deluxe bedroom AC runs at night, when you sleep, which is enough for most guests.
7. Consider a day cruise or a shikara
If a night on board is not essential, the 6-hour day cruise shows the same afternoon route. And for a few hours in the narrow canals, a private shikara ride starts at ₹2,000 for the whole boat.
What we do not cut
A lower price on the boats we book never means fewer meals, no crew or a shorter route. Every overnight stay includes the captain, the cook, five meals and the full 21-hour trip.
