How the Kumarakom round trip works
The standard overnight route goes from Punnamada across Vembanad Lake, past the R Block and C Block paddy fields, through the island canals of Rani, Chithira and Marthandam, and on to Kainakari before mooring for the night. On a Kumarakom round trip, the boat goes across the lake to the Kumarakom side as part of the cruise and brings you back to Alleppey. Houseboats do not cruise after dark, so the trip is planned around daylight hours.

Why start in Alleppey?
Starting in Alleppey means your cruise covers both sides of the backwaters. The Alleppey side has the network of narrow canals, islands and below-sea-level paddy fields; the lake crossing takes you to Kumarakom. If you board on the Kumarakom side, most of your time is on open lake.
We are honest about the trade-off: if you are staying at a resort in Kumarakom, you will need to travel to the jetty in Alleppey to board.

Kumarakom houseboat packages
The Kumarakom round trip can be added to any size of boat, from a 1-bedroom boat for a couple to a 5-bedroom boat for a group, on a Deluxe or Premium boat. Meals, crew and timings are the same as on a standard overnight stay: board at 12:00 PM, back by 9:00 AM, five meals cooked on board.
